What this site knows about you.

Short version: what you type into a form, your email address if you ask for the newsletter, and an anonymous count of pages read. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with advertisers.

Who is responsible

This site is run by Mary Dumont. If you have a question about anything on this page, or you want your information removed, write to the email address on the contact page and it will be handled by Mary personally.

When you write to Mary

The contact form and the coaching enquiry form send what you write to Mary by email, and keep a copy in the site's own database so she can find it again. That includes your name, your email address, and whatever you chose to tell her.

Coaching enquiries are the most personal thing this site holds. They are read by Mary and by nobody else. They are not used for marketing, they are never shared, and they are deleted on request.

The newsletter

If you subscribe, the site stores your email address and the date you confirmed it. Subscribing takes two steps on purpose: you enter your address, then click a link in an email to confirm it, so nobody can sign you up for something you didn't ask for.

Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link, and using it takes effect immediately. Your address is never sold, rented or passed to anyone else.

Measuring how the site is read

The site counts pages read so Mary knows which writing people find useful. It does this without cookies and without any third-party tracker, and it stores no identifier for you.

To tell one reader from two, it keeps a one-way fingerprint made from your network address and browser, mixed with a secret that changes every day. It cannot be turned back into your address, and tomorrow the same visit produces a different fingerprint. What's kept is the page, the site that linked you, your device type, your browser and your country — nothing that points at a person.

If you have an account

Clients who sign in get a session cookie, which is what keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It is necessary for the site to work and is used for nothing else — there are no advertising or tracking cookies anywhere on this site.

If Mary shares a private document with you, it is tied to your account and reachable by you alone. Each time it is opened is recorded, so she can see the document reached you. You can ask for a document, or your whole account, to be deleted at any time.

Payment

The site does not currently sell anything. If that changes, payment will be handled by Stripe on their own pages: card details are entered with Stripe, never with this site, and Mary only ever sees what you bought and that it was paid for.

Who else is involved

Three services make this site work, and each sees only what it needs to: the host that serves the pages, the database that stores the content and the messages above, and the service that sends email — the newsletter, sign-in links and the notifications that tell Mary you've written. None of them are advertising companies, and none are given permission to use your information for their own purposes.

How long things are kept

Messages and enquiries are kept as long as they're useful to the conversation they belong to. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. The anonymous page counts are kept indefinitely, because after the daily fingerprint rotates there is nothing in them to identify.

Your choices

You can ask what the site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and you can unsubscribe from the newsletter without asking anyone. Write to the email address on the contact page. If you need a postal address for a formal request, ask and Mary will provide one.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 16.
